Khaled Ghannam is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northeastern University's College of Engineering. His research focuses on boundary-layer meteorology, land-atmosphere interactions, air quality modeling, and hydroclimatology. He earned his PhD in Environmental Sciences from Duke University in 2017.
Education: PhD, Environmental Sciences, Duke University (2017).
Research interests include turbulent transport mechanisms in atmospheric boundary layers, numerical modeling of land-atmosphere interactions, and parameterization of canopy micrometeorology in climate models. He has contributed to advancing flux partitioning methods for water vapor and carbon dioxide, as well as exploring the impacts of surface heterogeneity and baroclinic effects on atmospheric dynamics.
Publications highlight his work on canopy turbulence, scalar transport, and climate model parameterization. Recent studies address challenges in surface layer assumptions and flux measurement techniques.
- 2025 Faculty Research Team Award – iSUPER Impact Engine
His work with the Intelligent Solutions to Urban Pollution (iSUPER) initiative integrates sensors and models to improve urban air quality policies. He collaborates on global climate modeling projects (e.g., GFDL Earth System Model) and has published extensively on boundary-layer dynamics and environmental fluid mechanics.
Research spans experimental, numerical, and theoretical approaches to atmospheric and environmental challenges, with a focus on bridging microscale processes and large-scale climate interactions.
