Khadijah Makky

Dr. Khadijah Makky is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University. She directs the Molecular and Cellular Research Core and the Sterilizer Monitoring Service. Her roles include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses such as Human and Applied Medical Genetics and Neurobiology of Moral Behavior. She also trains graduate students in molecular techniques. Dr. Makky holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Medical College of Wisconsin and a B.S. in Biochemistry from King Abdul-Aziz University.

Her research focuses on molecular and cellular mechanisms in development, particularly intestinal development in zebrafish and TOR signaling pathways. The Molecular and Cellular Core facility under her direction supports collaborative research projects, including in vivo gene manipulation using baculovirus systems. She has pioneered techniques such as whole-animal metabolic rate assays in zebrafish and optimized protocols for astrocyte-specific gene expression in rat brains.
