Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman is an Associate Professor of English at Coppin State University and the second Poet Laureate of Prince George's County, MD (2023-2026). As a playwright, poet, and educator, her work bridges African American Studies, arts, and social justice. She founded the Liberated Muse Arts Group, Black Family Homeschool Educators & Scholars, LLC (BFHES), and the nonprofit Black Writers for Peace and Social Justice, Inc.
Her research focuses on Black homeschooling practices, the intersection of hip-hop theatre and education, and cultural identity. She has authored poetry collections, co-edited educational texts, and created interdisciplinary lesson plans for K-12 and higher education.
- Authored/edited 5+ publications (2020-2024) on Black education and creative arts
- Recipient of 10+ awards including Fulbright-Hays (2019), MSAC grants, and 2024 UMBC Outstanding Alumni
- Founded 3 organizations: Liberated Muse (2008), BFHES (2020), and Black Writers for Peace
- Developed curricula on African diasporic musical instruments, social impact, and hip-hop theatre
She holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education/Community College Leadership from Morgan State University (2020), an MA in Mass Communication from Towson University (2000), and a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from UMBC (1995).
