Keyan Zhu-Salzman is a Professor in the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University, affiliated with Texas A&M AgriLife Research. She holds editorial roles at Insect Science and Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology. Her research focuses on insect-plant-environment interactions, including plant defense against aphids, herbivore adaptation, and novel pest control strategies like electron beam irradiation and RNAi-based pesticides.
Dr. Zhu-Salzman earned her B.S. and M.S. from Fudan University (Shanghai) and her Ph.D. from Purdue University. She teaches Insect Biotechnology, emphasizing molecular biology and genomic techniques. Her work has secured millions in research funding and led to over 110 peer-reviewed publications.
Research interests include understanding plant defense signaling, insect detoxification mechanisms, and the impact of environmental stressors like hypoxia. She explores innovative solutions such as nanoparticle delivery systems for RNAi and plasma-based pest eradication. Her labs integrate molecular, genetic, and ecological approaches to address agricultural pest challenges.
