Kiran Gadhave is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University, affiliated with Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Amarillo. His research focuses on insect vector biology, plant virology, and plant-insect-pathogen interactions, with a focus on using omics tools to study vector-pathogen dynamics. He aims to develop novel strategies for managing insect pests, vectors, and pathogens in economically critical crops of the Texas High Plains.
Education:
- M.S. Entomology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University
- M.S. Entomology & Plant Breeding and Genetics, Cornell University
- Ph.D. Biology, University of London
Research interests include understanding mechanisms of virus transmission by insect vectors, resistance-breaking virus strains, and integrating molecular tools for crop protection. His work combines field studies with laboratory-based genomic and biochemical analyses.
His recent publications highlight advancements in detecting resistance-breaking TSWV strains, optimizing Raman spectroscopy for disease diagnosis, and exploring microbial-based pest management. His lab (gadhavelab) focuses on translational research for sustainable agriculture.
Advising and grants: Advises students in entomology and plant pathology programs. His research is supported by grants from Texas A&M AgriLife and other agricultural agencies.
