Kevin Wozniak is a Lecturer in Criminology at Maynooth University's School of Law and Criminology since January 2023. Previously, he served as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Boston (2013–2022) and held fellowships with the American Political Science Association and U.S. National Institute of Justice. He holds a BA in Psychology from Skidmore College and a Ph.D. in Justice, Law, and Society from American University.
His research focuses on the politics of crime and criminal justice, public opinion dynamics, and U.S. criminal justice policymaking. Key themes include racial disparities in punitive attitudes, the impact of media framing on policy support, and comparative criminal justice systems.
Wozniak’s work has been published in top journals like Criminology and Law & Society Review, and he co-authored Thugs and Thieves: The Differential Etiology of Violence (Oxford UP, 2016) and The Politics of Crime Prevention (NYU Press, 2023). He currently leads the Criminology Committee and chairs Maynooth’s Research and Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Committees.
His teaching expertise includes criminological theory, survey research methods, and U.S. criminal justice systems. He collaborates on interdisciplinary projects comparing Irish and U.S. criminal justice practices.
