Dr. Kevin Robinson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath, affiliated with the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CSCT) and IAAPS. His research focuses on heat transfer mechanisms in internal combustion engines, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and thermal modeling of exhaust systems. He has led multiple EPSRC-funded projects involving gas turbine heat transfer, exhaust catalyst characterization, and engine thermal management. His work addresses challenges in predicting heat transfer rates for advanced engine designs and improving energy efficiency through innovative experimental methods.
- Key Affiliations: CSCT, IAAPS
- Technical Expertise: Thermal systems analysis, nanofluid applications, vibration effects in cooling systems
Research interests span experimental heat transfer in IC engines, vehicle braking systems, and exhaust catalysts. Recent studies include thermal modeling of exhaust catalysts using novel techniques and gas leakage analysis in turbines using liquid crystals. He collaborates with industry partners like major diesel engine manufacturers through Knowledge Transfer initiatives.
Grant activities include EPSRC programs on gas turbine hot gas ingestion (2013-2016), catalyst characterization (2007-2010), and engine thermal management (2011-2012). These projects emphasize bridging experimental data with computational modeling for real-world applications.
