Kevin Petrie is a Professor of Glass and Ceramics and Director of the Institute for International Research in Glass at the University of Sunderland. His primary affiliations include the Faculty of Education Society & Creative Industries and the School of Media and Creative Industries. He holds a PhD in Water-based ceramic transfer printing from the University of the West of England (2008), MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art (1999), and BA in Illustration from the University of Westminster (1993).
His research spans interdisciplinary fields: blending printmaking with glass and ceramics, advancing creative techniques, and exploring intersections with science. Notable projects include collaborations in leukemia epigenetics and cancer biomarker studies, as well as exhibitions such as 'Web of Life' (2024) and 'Other Journeys' (2023). He has authored/co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles, books like *The Glass Reader* (2021), and contributed to exhibitions globally.
Professional roles include leading BA/MA programs, supervising postgraduate researchers, and serving on international academic committees. His work emphasizes applied research with societal impact, spanning art innovation, medical research collaboration, and pedagogical advancements in creative education.
