Kevin Nunes is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Carleton University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa and operates the Aggressive Cognitions and Behaviour Research (ACBR) Lab. His research focuses on understanding the cognitive and attitudinal factors underlying violent behavior, employing experimental designs and data collection in diverse settings including prisons, forensic hospitals, and online platforms.
His work is funded by grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, The Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research, and Carleton University. Current projects investigate attitudes toward violence in university students and general populations, refining measures and exploring predictors of aggression. Collaborators include researchers from institutions like Nipissing University, University of Alberta, and Queen’s University.
Recent publications emphasize methodology in violence research, cross-cultural comparisons of violent attitudes, and implicit attitude assessment. Nunes’s research aims to inform effective interventions to reduce violence through improved understanding of causal mechanisms.
Advising and grants involve supervision of student researchers and securing competitive funding for projects. The ACBR Lab serves as a hub for collaborative forensic and social psychology research, contributing to both theoretical and applied knowledge in aggression studies.
