Kevin Murphy is a Lecturer at Northumbria University's Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health. He serves as Programme Lead for the Community Specialist Practice Qualification (SPQ) covering District Nursing, General Practice Nursing, Adult Social Care Nursing and Community Children's Nursing. Additionally, he leads the Higher Apprenticeship Specialist Practice in District Nursing (HA-SPDN) PG/Dip and MSc programs.
Murphy's research interests focus on community nursing, particularly lone working in district nursing settings, perception of risk, and pre-registration nursing students' experiences with lone working. His teaching spans pre-registration nursing modules where he also serves as a Personal Tutor. He maintains active clinical practice as a District Nurse in Newcastle while pursuing his PhD on lone working in district nursing.
His publication record demonstrates expertise in community nursing practice, infection control, non-medical prescribing, and innovative communication methods in healthcare. Recent work explores maggot debridement therapy, Parkinson's medication management, and digital communication tools like WhatsApp in nursing practice.
