Kevin McGeough serves as Professor and Co-Chair in the Department of Geography & Environment at the University of Lethbridge, teaching archaeological methods, Near Eastern regional surveys, Biblical Hebrew, and Liberal Education courses.
His academic credentials include a BA in History (Great Distinction) from the University of Lethbridge (1996), an MTS in Bible and Scriptures from Harvard University (1998), and a PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Pennsylvania (2005).
McGeough's research integrates ancient economics (Bronze Age/Ugaritic), Victorian-era archaeology scholarship, and cultural reception studies, with notable expertise in Orientalism, historical geography, and textual-archaeological synthesis. His work examines how non-specialists engage with archaeological data through film, literature, and 19th-century expositions.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a dual trajectory: sustained contributions to Ugaritic economic studies alongside innovative investigations into archaeology's popular manifestations, particularly in cinema and children's literature—a trend reflecting his commitment to bridging academic and public spheres.
He currently holds an SSHRC Insight Grant examining archaeology in children's literature and co-directs excavations at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump with Blackfoot interpreters, while serving as co-editor of the Alberta Archaeological Review and maintaining editorial leadership in major archaeological publication series.
