Kevin McCarey is a distinguished Professor of Film and Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since 2006. He holds an M.A. in Film Studies from the University of Oregon and a B.S. in Marine Transportation from SUNY Maritime College. His career spans over four decades as a filmmaker, writer, and producer, blending artistic creativity with technical expertise in documentary and narrative formats.
McCarey's research and creative work focus on environmental storytelling, marine conservation advocacy, and innovative documentary techniques. His notable films include Extinction (2011), Wolf Pack (2003 Emmy winner), and the Peabody Award-winning Portrait of America (1983). He has also authored three books, including the 2021 collection Moonglow Bay, which explores maritime themes through short stories.
