Dr. Kevin Maringer is a Lecturer in Microbiology at the University of Surrey's School of Biosciences. He holds a BSc (Hons) and PhD. His research focuses on understanding mosquito-borne viruses like dengue and Zika, particularly their interactions with mosquito vectors such as Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. He investigates mechanisms driving virus transmission and global emergence, using proteomics and transcriptomics in non-model organisms.
Collaborations include work with Dr. Paola Campagnolo on dengue-induced vascular leakage and partnerships with the Pirbright Institute. He contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives addressing neglected tropical diseases, co-organizes the Recently Independent Virology Researchers network, and serves on the Microbiology Society policy committee.
His research has been supported by undisclosed funders and he has developed educational content for BBC programming. Office hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by appointment.
