Kevin M. Schultz is a Professor and Chair of the Department of History at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He is also the Academic Chair of UIC Global and a former president of the Society for U.S. Intellectual History. His research focuses on twentieth- and twenty-first-century American history, particularly religion and intellectual/cultural life. Schultz has authored influential books such as Tri-Faith America (2011), Mailer and Buckley (2015), and the upcoming Why Everyone Hates White Liberals (2025). He is a distinguished teacher, recipient of multiple awards, including the Shirley A. Bill Award for Excellence in Teaching (2012-13), and the author of the widely used HIST textbook series.
His work examines themes like religious pluralism in postwar America, the dynamics of U.S. intellectual history, and the cultural impact of political ideologies. Schultz has been a frequent media commentator, appearing on NPR, C-SPAN, and MSNBC. His research has been supported by institutions like the Harry Ransom Center and the Tanner Center.
