Professor Kevin Laupland is a Professor of Intensive Care and Director of Research at QUT's Faculty of Health, School of Medicine. He holds expertise in critical care medicine, infectious diseases, and epidemiology. His training includes an MD (Honours) from the University of Toronto, a Royal College of Physicians fellowship in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, and Infectious Diseases, and an MS in Epidemiology from the University of Calgary.
His research focuses on the epidemiology of severe infections, antimicrobial resistance, and clinical outcomes in critical care settings. He has authored over 500 peer-reviewed publications and collaborates internationally with institutions in Australia, Canada, Europe, and the UK. Professor Laupland has held leadership roles including Head of Medicine and Medical Staff President at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops.
Key research interests include bloodstream infections, sepsis management, and ICU patient outcomes. Recent studies examine hypercapnia effects in metabolic acidosis, fluid balance in AKI, and psychiatric comorbidities in critical illness. He actively mentors trainees across undergraduate to postgraduate levels.
Notable collaborations involve multinational studies on antibiotic resistance, ICU protocols, and public health interventions. His work integrates clinical practice with translational research to improve patient care globally.
