Dr. Kevin Greene is an Associate Professor of History at the School of Humanities, University of Southern Mississippi. He serves as Director of the Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage and is a faculty fellow at the Dale Center for the Study of War and Society.
He holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2011), an MA from East Carolina University (2003), and a BA from Northern Vermont University (2000). His research focuses on African American experiences in war and society from WWI to present.
His scholarly interests span African American history, music history, urban history, and cultural history. As principal investigator for the Mississippi Oral History Project, he documents Mississippi's cultural heritage through qualitative research.
His publications primarily explore African American cultural history, music evolution, and historical narratives of the American South. Recent works examine racial identity, cultural reinvention, and educational reform in Mississippi.
Dr. Greene teaches courses in American history, African American history, urban history, world history, research methodology, oral history, and cultural history.
