Dr. Kevin De Sabbata is a Lecturer in Law at the School of Law, Keele University. His work focuses on healthcare law and ethics, mental health law, global health law, disability rights, and ethical dilemmas in public health crises. He holds an Integrated Master’s in Law from the University of Trieste (Italy) and a PhD from the University of Leeds (UK). Before joining Keele in 2021, he worked at institutions including the Athena Institute (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), University of Udine Law School, and the Centre for Ethics in Medicine (University of Bristol). His interdisciplinary research combines law with ethics, philosophy, sociology, and psychology, addressing issues such as consent to treatment, dementia rights, and pandemic ethics.
Key research projects include studies on pandemic ethics and disability rights funded by the UK Pandemic Ethics Accelerator, comparative reviews of hospital triage protocols during the pandemic (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), and global health projects with the WHO and UN. He has contributed to policy consultations for the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the UK Law Commission. His teaching emphasizes practical and ethical challenges in healthcare law.
