Kevin Davenport is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Utah. His work integrates experimental condensed matter physics, materials science, and physics education research. He focuses on the electrical transport properties of materials like organic semiconductors and 1D superconductors using noise spectroscopy, while also leading pedagogical innovation in introductory physics education.

Davenport’s research spans two major domains. In experimental physics, he investigates the electrical behavior of organic semiconductors and superconducting nanowires using noise spectroscopy—a technique that interprets current fluctuations to uncover underlying physical processes. His work contributes to the development of next-generation electronic displays, solar cells, and quantum devices. In physics education, he studies how students make sense of physics concepts in lab settings and how teaching teams translate instructional materials into effective learning experiences.

He is involved in the development and implementation of the IPLS (Introductory Physics for the Life Sciences) labs and collaborates with the College of Education on physics education research. He also works closely with teaching teams to improve instructional quality and student engagement in lab environments.
