Kevin Befus is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences. He leads the Befus Groundwater Lab and focuses on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of hydrology, geophysics, and earth system processes.
- PhD, Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin
- MS, Geosciences, University of Colorado, Boulder
His research explores groundwater flow dynamics, particularly in coastal settings, and addresses water sustainability challenges through hydrogeological and geophysical methods. His work emphasizes the critical role of groundwater in global water resources and hazards mitigation.
At the University of Arkansas since 2020 (promoted to Associate Professor in 2024), he previously served at the University of Wyoming (2016-2020) and as a Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow at USGS Woods Hole Coastal & Marine Science Center (2015-2016).
Lab research integrates multi-scale investigations of groundwater-surface water interactions, employing innovative geophysical approaches to study subsurface water movement and its environmental impacts.
