Kevin Anderson is a Senior Lecturer of Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research intersects film studies and anthropology, focusing on the social aesthetics and phenomenology of technology and the body. He has produced publications in journals such as Medical Anthropology, PostScript, and Journal of Film and Video.
- Education: PhD in Cultural and Visual Anthropology – University of Massachusetts.
His scholarly and artistic work spans documentary film, visual anthropology, and medical anthropology, with fieldwork in Ethiopia, Japan, Ireland, Nigeria, Italy, and India. His films explore cross-cultural narratives and ethnographic hypermedia, challenging traditional categorizations of ethnographic media.
Kevin's recent films include Awakening the Internal Sound (2020) and Layers of Pompeii (2019), the former winning the Best Documentary Short at the Beyond Earth Film Festival. His influences include filmmakers Jean Rouch, Chris Marker, and Maya Deren.
