Kester Newill is a Lecturer in Interpreting/Translation at the University of Stirling's School of English Studies. His career spans education roles in China and the UK, focusing on teaching, teacher training, and project management. He currently serves as an External Examiner for Swansea University's Translation and Interpreting programs.
His research interests include technology-enhanced learning, intercultural business communication, and the teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language. He has recently expanded into translation technologies and audiovisual translation, particularly in Chinese media contexts. Notable outputs include presentations on dictionary training for Mandarin learners (2019), student-constructed speech repositories for interpreting training (2015), and digital pen technology applications in curriculum design (2014).
He authored Easy Learning Mandarin Chinese Characters (Collins, 2012, 2017), and holds the Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His work emphasizes professional relevance and innovation in language education.
