Kerstin Menzel is a theologian and academic researcher specializing in Practical Theology. Since March 2020, she has been a Research Associate with the DFG Research Group 2733 "Sacred Space Transformation" at the University of Leipzig, focusing on hybrid sacred spaces in secular contexts. She also serves as Assistant Professor at the Chair of Practical Theology (Prof. Dr. A. Deeg) since September 2020, and will hold a one-year professorship at Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg starting April 2024.
Her educational background includes a summa cum laude doctorate from Philipps University Marburg (2017) on rural pastoral professions in Eastern Germany, funded by the Evangelical Study Center Villigst. She holds a Master of Sacred Theology from Union Theological Seminary (2006) and completed theological studies at Leipzig and Humboldt Universities (2009).
Research interests span ritual studies, religious space utilization, and pastoral responses to crisis, with particular focus on church transformations in secularized environments. Her work examines participation processes in worship and gender dynamics within pastoral professions.
