Kerstin Bernoth

Kerstin Bernoth is Co-Dean of the Graduate Center and a Research Associate in the Macroeconomics Department at DIW Berlin. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bonn (2004) and previously worked at De Nederlandsche Bank (2004–2009). Her research focuses on monetary policy, international economics, financial stability, and empirical macroeconomics. Since 2015, she has served on the European Parliament’s Monetary Expert Panel.

Education: Ph.D. (2004) and M.Sc. in Economics (2000) from the University of Bonn. Prior to DIW Berlin, she was a professor at the Hertie School (2013–2020).

Research emphasizes central bank communication, exchange rate dynamics, and fiscal-monetary policy interactions. Key contributions include analyses of ECB policy effectiveness, sovereign risk in bond markets, and global financial spillovers. She has advised policymakers on Eurozone stability and participated in high-profile projects like the ‘Gemeinschaftsdiagnose’ economic assessments.

Publications span journals such as Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and Journal of International Money and Finance, with a focus on empirical macroeconomics and policy relevance. Her work bridges academic research and practical policy, addressing contemporary issues like disinflation challenges and central bank communication strategies.
