Dr. Kerri Finlay is a Professor at the University of Regina's Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Institute of Environmental Change and Society. She holds a PhD from the University of Guelph (2005) and a BSc from the University of Toronto (1999). Her research focuses on aquatic ecology and biogeochemistry, particularly carbon cycling in prairie lakes, greenhouse gas emissions, and water quality dynamics influenced by climate change and human activities.
Research interests center on understanding mechanisms driving carbon-climate interactions in hard-water lakes, community-based water monitoring, and interdisciplinary approaches integrating social-political perspectives. Her work examines how climate parameters (temperature, precipitation) affect carbon processing across diverse aquatic systems globally.
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on greenhouse gas fluxes (CO₂, CH₄, N₂O) in agricultural and natural waterbodies, eutrophication impacts, and climate change adaptation strategies. Recent work emphasizes citizen science integration and practical applications for water resource management.
Dr. Finlay leads the F.A.S.T (Finlay Aquatic Science Team) Lab, promoting inclusive research environments. She actively seeks graduate students for projects on methane dynamics, algal toxins, and community-based monitoring, offering opportunities through NSERC USRA and research assistantships.
