Kenzie A. Cameron, PhD, MPH, is a Professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, with appointments in Medicine (General Internal Medicine), Medical Education, Medical Social Sciences (Intervention Science), and Preventive Medicine (Behavioral Medicine). She serves as the Senior Director of Mentoring and Leadership Development in the Center for Education and Career Development of the NUCATS Institute.

Research Interests: Dr. Cameron is a communication-trained health services researcher specializing in theory-based message design and persuasion. Her work focuses on developing health communication interventions to promote preventive health behaviors (influenza vaccination, pneumonia vaccination, colorectal cancer screening) while addressing racial and ethnic disparities. She employs qualitative research methods and has expertise in health literacy and medical education.
Recent Publications: Her 2025 publications demonstrate interdisciplinary impact across medical education and cardiology. She has developed diagnostic uncertainty communication training with sustained long-term effects and created evidence-based mentor training programs. In cardiology, her cluster randomized trials evaluate shared decision-making tools for atrial fibrillation management, emphasizing stroke prevention and patient-centered care through decision aids.

Advising and Grants: Dr. Cameron has successfully mentored faculty to secure career development awards and NIH/AHRQ R-series funding. As Principal Investigator, she has led CDC, NIA, NCI, and AHRQ-funded projects developing health communication interventions. She has contributed as Co-Investigator or Mentor to over 60 funded grants, including venous thromboembolism prevention in cancer patients, simulation-based learning for ventricular assist devices, and diagnostic uncertainty communication in emergency departments.
Labs and Teams: Dr. Cameron leads mentoring initiatives through the NUCATS Institute's Center for Education and Career Development. She collaborates with the Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM), Center for Health Services & Outcomes Research, and Center for Diabetes and Metabolism on multidisciplinary teams addressing health disparities and preventive care implementation.
