Kent Syverson is a Professor in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. His academic role includes teaching and research in glacial geology, geomorphology, and environmental geology. He has served as lead editor for the State of Wisconsin glacial lithostratigraphy update and contributed to the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey's publications.
Education: Ph.D. and M.S. in Geology from University of Wisconsin-Madison, B.S. in Geology from University of Minnesota-Duluth. Professional credentials include Wisconsin Professional Geologist #548.
Research focuses on glacial history of Wisconsin and Maine, frac sand deposits, and ice-margin processes. Notable projects include the Responsible Mining Initiative Economic Development Grant ($451K) and collaborative studies with undergraduate students on landforms in the Chippewa Moraine and Blue Hills Felsenmeer areas. His fieldwork spans Alaska, Maine, and Wisconsin, with contributions to National Park Service exhibits.
Awards include the 2012 UW-Eau Claire Excellence in Teaching Award. He has published extensively on glacial stratigraphy, deglaciation patterns, and industrial sand geology, with over 20 peer-reviewed articles and technical reports. His book Adventures in Glacier Bay (2020) combines scientific insights with personal field narratives.
