Kent F. Spreckelmeyer is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Kansas, School of Architecture & Design. His career spans over four decades, focusing on the intersection of human well-being and the built environment. He directs the Health & Wellness internship program and has contributed to developing the professional Master of Architecture and PhD programs.
His research emphasizes healthcare environments, post-occupancy evaluations (POE), and architectural programming. Notable leadership roles include shaping the School’s academic programs and teaching abroad in Florence and Paris. He received the 2009 W.T. Kemper Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching, recognizing his impactful instruction in studios and seminars.
Research interests include evidence-based design for healthcare facilities, rural hospital typologies, and workplace optimization. Recent work addresses pandemic-era challenges like nurse fatigue and hand hygiene compliance in Long-Term Care settings. Collaborations bridge academic and clinical practices to advance healthcare architecture.
Publications span over 40 years, covering topics from ICU design to green building strategies. He co-authored influential texts on office environments and workplace evaluation methodologies.
