Kenneth S. Kosik is a Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He leads the Kosik Lab, focusing on neurobiology, cellular identity, and neurodegenerative diseases. His work integrates molecular, genomic, and systems-level approaches to study synaptic plasticity, tau protein pathobiology, and Alzheimer's disease mechanisms. Research includes cerebral organoid models for neurodevelopmental studies and genomic analyses in admixed Latin American populations.
Key areas of exploration:
- Neurodegenerative Diseases: Tauopathy mechanisms, Alzheimer's biomarkers, and Colombia-based genetic studies.
- Stem Cell Biology: Modeling neurodevelopmental disorders using induced pluripotent stem cells and organoids.
- Neurophysiology: Multi-electrode array analysis of neuronal circuitry and electrophysiological dysfunction in tauopathies.
Collaborations include the Grupo de Neurociencias de Antioquia (Colombia) and the ReDLat consortium for Latin America-focused dementia research. His lab also develops CRISPR-based diagnostics and explores quantum processes in consciousness theory.
