Professor Kenneth Mark Hillman is Professor of Intensive Care at the School of Clinical Medicine, UNSW Medicine and Health, and Foundation Director of the Simpson Centre for Health Services Research at UNSW and the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research. His primary appointment is with the Discipline of Critical Care at the University of New South Wales Sydney.
Education: MBBS (University of Sydney), FCICM, FRCP, MD.
Research Focus: Professor Hillman specializes in health services research with emphasis on developing innovative healthcare delivery systems. He pioneered the Medical Emergency Team (MET) system, now adopted globally. His work addresses end-of-life care optimization for frail elderly patients and hospital safety systems. Current projects involve machine learning for patient risk stratification and digital health diagnostics.

- Order of Australia (2015) for distinguished service to intensive care
- Two NSW Premier’s Public Sector Awards (1998, 2013)
- ANZICS Honour Roll induction (2011)
- Stouteenbeck Award for clinical innovation (2005)
Grants & Leadership: Secured over $27M in funding including NHMRC Partnerships for end-of-life care research ($1.5M+) and machine learning hospital systems ($768K). Directs the Simpson Centre for Health Services Research and collaborates with NSW Health on ICU care models.
