His tenure at UP spans decades, rooted in deep familial ties: his grandparents married at Christie Hall in the 1920s, and he and his family have earned six degrees from the university, including his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering. After a career at Hyster and Boeing, he returned to UP in 1998, dedicating himself to teaching and fostering student engagement through hands-on courses like Mechanical Projects and a telescope-building elective.
Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Lulay’s work emphasizes practical engineering applications, student mentorship, and project-based learning. He actively guided student organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) teams, including SAE Aero, Baja, and Formula. His commitment to collaborative learning and leadership in academic engineering is reflected in his role as advisor and his focus on integrating real-world experience into curricula.
Advising and Community Involvement: Beyond the classroom, Dr. Lulay coached Little League, held leadership roles with the Boy Scouts of America, and remained active in the Knights of Columbus. His legacy at UP is defined by mentorship and fostering student innovation, with plans to continue engaging with the university community post-retirement.
