Kenneth Janken is a Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of African American and Diaspora Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in History from Hunter College and Rutgers University. His research focuses on 20th-century African American history, including the Wilmington Ten case, African American intellectual history, and school desegregation. Notable works include The Wilmington Ten: Violence, Injustice, and the Rise of Black Politics in the 1970s and biographies of Rayford W. Logan and Walter White. He has received awards for his scholarship, including the R.D.W. Connor best article award. Janken teaches courses on the Civil Rights Movement, Harlem Renaissance, and African American autobiography.
