Kenneth Fernald is an Assistant Professor at the Athena Institute and Network Institute within the Faculty of Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He holds a PhD in Management and Economics from ERIM (Erasmus Research Institute of Management). His research focuses on venture capital, strategic alliances, mergers & acquisitions, and governance within the Life Sciences sector, particularly addressing innovation challenges in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
He teaches specialized courses in Entrepreneurship and Finance for Health and Life Sciences master's students, blending academic expertise with over a decade of industry experience as a consultant and entrepreneur. Current projects include enhancing regional innovation ecosystems and improving patient-centric healthcare through blood sampling advancements.
His recent publications explore vaccine manufacturing bottlenecks, diagnostic technologies like LAMP, and pharmaceutical R&D efficiency. He actively participates in research collaborations and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through his work in global health and innovation.
