Kendra Evans is a Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Detroit Mercy, affiliated with the College of Engineering & Science. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Western Kentucky University (2003) and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Michigan (2009). Her research spans bioanalytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and science education, with a focus on metabolomics, pesticide toxicity, and undergraduate research mentorship. She actively contributes to professional societies like Anachem and the American Chemical Society (ACS), serving in leadership roles such as Vice President of Anachem and exam committee chair. Evans has received notable awards, including the Anachem Fellow Award (2014) and the University of Detroit Mercy Faculty Achievement Award (2015).
Her teaching responsibilities include general chemistry, quantitative analysis, and instrumental analysis courses. Evans leads NIH-funded initiatives like the I-RISE with U-RISE Program and co-directs the Office of Undergraduate Research in STEM and Graduate Opportunities (OURS+GO). Her lab emphasizes student success through course-based research experiences and evaluates interventions that foster science identity development. Notable student achievements include presentations at national conferences like ASBMB and ANACHEM, with awards for best undergraduate posters.
Evans’ articles reflect interdisciplinary strengths in analytical methods, environmental toxicology, and pedagogy. Recent work highlights metabolomics strategies, pesticide effects on aquatic organisms, and mentorship frameworks for early-career researchers. Her NIH-funded projects underscore commitment to expanding STEM opportunities in Detroit, particularly for underrepresented groups.
