Professor Ken Dark is a Visiting Professor at King's College London's Department of Theology and Religious Studies, specializing in 1st millennium archaeology, early Christianity, and Late Antiquity. With a PhD from Cambridge, he previously held positions at Oxford, Cambridge, and Reading universities before joining King's. His research examines archaeological, historical, and art historical aspects of early Christianity, Byzantine urbanism, and cultural contacts.
Research interests include:
- Archaeology of the first millennium AD
- Byzantine art history and urban studies
- Methodological approaches to archaeology
- Relevance of historical research to contemporary politics and identities
Professor Dark has directed major archaeological projects including excavations at Hagia Sophia (Istanbul), Nazareth, and Sea of Galilee sites. He maintains extensive public engagement through media appearances, public lectures, and archaeological tours, with his work featured in over 3,500 media reports globally.
