Dr. Ine Jacobs is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Associate Professor of Byzantine Archaeology and Visual Culture at the Faculty of Classics, University of Oxford. She previously held a Chancellor’s Fellowship at the University of Edinburgh (2013–2015) and was a Lecturer in Roman Archaeology at the University of Brussels. Her research focuses on the Eastern Mediterranean during Late Antiquity and Byzantium, emphasizing urban development, the interplay between material evidence and literary sources, and the socio-religious impact of Christianity.

Her supervision includes topics on Byzantine Dark Ages, hermitages in Cyprus, and urban resilience. She has received grants from the Flemish Research Foundation for her DPhil and postdoctoral work, including research stays in Munich.
