Dr. Kemal Silay is a Professor and the Ottoman and Modern Turkish Studies Endowed Chair at Indiana University Bloomington's Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies. He holds a B.A. from Ankara University (1987), and M.A. and Ph.D. from Indiana University (1990, 1993). His research focuses on Ottoman literature, cultural history, secularism-Islam dynamics, and textual studies. He founded the Turkish Flagship Center and has authored influential books such as Nedim and the Poetics of the Ottoman Court and An Anthology of Turkish Literature. His work bridges traditional and modern currents in Turkish Studies, with current projects on Ottoman court texts and the Turkish communist poet Nazım Hikmet.
