Kelvin Davies, Ph.D., is a Professor in both the Department of Urology and the Department of Molecular Pharmacology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research focuses on advancing urological treatments through molecular mechanisms and interdisciplinary approaches. He employs 'omic' technologies and rodent models to study conditions like erectile dysfunction, overactive bladder, and prostate cancer.
Professional interests include nerve regeneration post-prostatectomy, nanoparticle delivery systems for urogenital diseases, and the role of the MaxiK channel in bladder activity. His lab pioneered animal models for erectile function assessment (cavernosometry) and bladder function (cystometry). Collaborations span diverse disciplines to address both benign and oncologic urogenital diseases.
Recent publications emphasize novel therapies for erectile dysfunction, nanoparticle applications in urology, and molecular insights into prostate cancer progression. His work on opiorphin’s role in sperm motility and prostate cancer represents cutting-edge research. The lab also investigates hyperglycemic memory in diabetic bladders and microbiome influences on kidney stones.
Research highlights synergistic nitric oxide/PDE5 inhibitor treatments, BK-channel gene therapy for overactive bladder, and Fidgetin-like 2 as a target for nerve regeneration. Ongoing studies explore sickle cell-associated priapism and the molecular underpinnings of male infertility.
