Dr. Kelly W. Gagnon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, affiliated with the Center for AIDS Intervention Research. Her research focuses on improving access to evidence-based interventions for underserved populations, particularly sexual and gender minorities and individuals in under-resourced areas. She employs implementation science to address gaps in healthcare access and quality, with a focus on substance use disorders, mental health, HIV/STI prevention, and harm reduction strategies.
Education includes a BA in Psychology and French/Francophone Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, an MPH from Southern Connecticut State University, and a PhD in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. She has been recognized with awards including the 2022 Delta Omega Best Dissertation Award and multiple academic honors.
Key research interests include: advancing healthcare equity through implementation science, optimizing HIV/PrEP services in clinical settings, and evaluating telemedicine strategies for substance use and mental health. Recent work highlights how hospitalization represents a critical but underutilized opportunity for HIV screening and PrEP prescription.
Her 2023-2024 publications emphasize innovations in telehealth for HIV-positive populations, stigma reduction in opioid-related documentation, and policy responses to fentanyl crises. Ongoing studies investigate electronic patient-reported outcomes systems in Alabama HIV clinics and sexual health screening practices in Federally Qualified Health Centers.
Dr. Gagnon has received federal training in clinical translational science and outcomes research. Her work bridges academic and community partnerships to ensure interventions reflect community needs, particularly for marginalized groups facing systemic healthcare barriers.
