Kelly Quinn is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), where she also serves as Coordinator of Graduate Student Instructors. She holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and an MSLIS from Dominican University. Her research focuses on new media technologies, particularly exploring how digital platforms affect aging populations, social capital, privacy, and cognitive health. Current projects include the ActivityAssist study (using voice assistants to promote physical activity among older adults), the Social Media Privacy Research Collective (privacy framing analysis), and the Comparative Privacy Research Network (international privacy frameworks).
Dr. Quinn’s work bridges communication studies, information science, and business strategy, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration. She has published extensively in journals like Information, Communication & Society and Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, addressing topics such as privacy marginalization, elderly technology adoption, and digital social capital. Her teaching spans research methods, organizational communication, and public speaking.
Her research methodologies include ethnographic studies, randomized controlled trials, and large-scale surveys. She actively contributes to professional organizations like the Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR), serving as Treasurer. Quinn’s scholarship intersects technology ethics, aging populations, and digital equity, with a focus on practical solutions for marginalized communities.
