E.A. Quinn

E.A. Quinn is an Associate Professor of Biological Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, holding a PhD and MPH from Northwestern University and a BSc from Emory University. Her research focuses on human milk composition and breastfeeding behaviors in diverse populations, particularly high-altitude Tibetan communities and Filipino populations, investigating ecological adaptations and developmental plasticity. Quinn’s work integrates field studies with laboratory analyses of metabolic hormones and immunoproteins in human milk.

Key projects include the Infancy @Altitude longitudinal study in Nepal and the Cebu Longitudinal Health and Nutrition Survey. She maintains a biohazard level 2 lab for ELISA testing of biomarkers in human milk. Quinn has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed articles and received the Sony Award for Excellence in Teaching with Technology (2012).

Her teaching and advising involve 43 undergraduate advisees and graduate students like Grace Chao and Jessica Yoon. Quinn actively collaborates with institutions globally, including the University of San Carlos in the Philippines. She also engages in public outreach through her research blog, translating science for broader audiences.
