Kelly O’Donnell is the Director of Science Forward at Macaulay Honors College, City University of New York (CUNY), where she oversees interdisciplinary science programming and curriculum development. She co-created the Science Forward initiative, a skills-focused program that engages students in active scientific processes through events like the annual BioBlitz, data-driven research projects, and the STEAM Festival. Dr. O’Donnell teaches Science Forward seminars and upper-level courses such as Ecological Change & Human Disease and Detecting Bullshit in the Modern Age.

Her research and teaching focus on botany, urban ecology, invasive plant evolution, and science education. She co-developed an open educational resource (OER) library at cuny.is/scienceforward, featuring videos and activities for science instruction.
Recent Publications highlight her work in integrating data literacy, citizen science, and interdisciplinary approaches into undergraduate education. Topics include the use of iNaturalist for ecological monitoring and addressing gaps in instructor training for data science in life sciences.
Additional Contributions: Dr. O’Donnell is involved in academic leadership, curriculum design, and fostering student engagement in scientific practices. Her non-academic interests include embroidery, trapeze, and Star Trek.
