Kelly Nipper is a Lecturer in the Art, Culture, and Technology Program at MIT’s School of Architecture + Planning. Her practice merges dance, movement theory, and time-based media to explore the materiality of time, space, and the body. Nipper’s research engages with historical methodologies like Rudolph Laban’s Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals, focusing on total-body connectivity and human-technology relationships.
She holds an MFA from California Institute of the Arts (1995). Her work has been showcased in solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), Bard College, and Kunsthaus Zürich. Notable commissions include performances for MoMA (New York), Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw), and Performa (New York).
Nipper’s interdisciplinary projects, such as Tessa Pattern Takes a Picture, investigate themes of time, memory, and industrialized body mechanics through performance and multimedia installations. Her work is part of major collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles) and the Israel Museum (Jerusalem).
