Kelly M. Britt, Ph.D., RPA, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Brooklyn College-CUNY, affiliated with the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences. Her work bridges urban archaeology, heritage studies, and social justice through community-based and collaborative research.
- Education: Associate Degree, Dean College (1990); B.A. in Creative Writing (Emerson College, 1992) and Anthropology (University of Massachusetts-Boston, 1998); M.A. (2000) and Ph.D. (2009) in Anthropology from Columbia University.
Britt’s research focuses on the materiality of identity and place in urban contexts, with emphasis on activism, disaster recovery, and the intersection of gentrification with historic preservation. She leads projects such as the United Order of Tents collaboration in Brooklyn and a global pandemic heritage mapping initiative.
Her recent publications highlight themes like climate resilience, social justice, and collaborative archaeology, reflecting her engagement with contemporary issues. She has received grants including the Henry Wasser Award and PSC-CUNY Grant B to support her work.
