Kelly Kinney is an Associate Professor of English and Department Chair at the University of Wyoming, where she directs the Writing Programs’ COM sequence. She holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from Ohio University (2005), an M.A. from the University of Nebraska-Omaha (1996), and a B.A. in English and Political Science from Purdue University (1992). Her academic leadership includes roles as Director of Writing Programs at Binghamton University (2014–2015) and the University of Notre Dame (2004–2007).
Her research focuses on academic labor dynamics in independent writing programs, writing program administration, and curriculum design. Notable works include Writing @ 7200 Feet (2016) and a forthcoming book on academic labor. She has received prestigious awards such as the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service (2015) and the CCCC Writing Program Certificate of Excellence (2011).
Prof. Kinney has extensive editorial roles, including Book Review Editor for Composition Studies, and has developed innovative courses like Radical Women Rhetors and College Composition and Rhetoric. Her service includes leadership in professional organizations such as the Council of Writing Program Administrators and the Independent Writing Departments & Programs Affiliate.
