Kelly J. Tierney is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Design at Tulane University. She holds an MFA in Transdisciplinary Design from Parsons School of Design and a BFA in Fine Arts and Industrial Design from The College for Creative Studies. Her work bridges strategic design, performance art, and social science to address economic justice, solidarity, and reimagining societal frameworks like the American Dream.
Her teaching emphasizes playful, contemplative methods, blending theater, philosophy, and game design to foster critical inquiry. She has over 20 years of experience in systems thinking and collaborative storytelling, contributing to projects like Obama Care’s healthcare redesign. Notable achievements include two iF Design Awards and patented innovations in wearable technology and digital audio devices.
Her research explores participatory experiences, transformative interactions, and values-driven futures. Projects include magical flash mobs, self-discovery tools, and games for cultural change. She advocates for design as a catalyst for social equity and systemic rethinking.
