Dr. Kelly Harrigan is a Teaching Faculty member in the School of Education at Antioch University, where she contributes to the Master of Arts in Teaching program. With over a decade of experience as a K-12 STEM educator in urban settings, she specializes in Mathematics Curriculum & Instruction, ELL Education, and social justice-oriented pedagogy. Previously, she taught mathematics and early-childhood education courses at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and supervised student-teaching placements.
Education:
- PhD in Curriculum & Instruction, University of Wisconsin–Madison (with minors in STS Studies and Medical History & Bioethics)
- MS in Curriculum & Instruction, University of Wisconsin–Madison
- BS in Sociology and Psychology, University of Wisconsin–Madison
Her research examines mathematics curricular omission decisions, early-childhood mathematics pedagogy, and innovative assessment methods using photography. She emphasizes equity in mathematics education and has presented at NCTM National Research Conferences on assessment frameworks and equitable teacher education practices. Additional certifications include Criminal Justice and Medical Studies.
Dr. Harrigan mentors pre-service teachers to become reflective practitioners who integrate mathematics as a tool for social justice analysis. She maintains affiliations with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), American Educational Research Association (AERA), Council for Opportunity in Education (COE), and Wisconsin Career Development Association (WCDA).
