Kelly Brignac is an Assistant Professor of History at Colby College, specializing in Atlantic World history with a focus on abolition, forced labor, and the legacies of slavery. She holds a B.A. from Millsaps College, an M.A. from Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. Her research investigates post-abolition forced labor practices in the French Empire, including the legal mechanisms of African indenture in the 19th century. She has been supported by grants such as the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Fulbright IIE.
Research Interests: Atlantic World, Slavery, Abolition, Indian Ocean Studies, French Imperial History, and Forced Labor Systems.

Her teaching emphasizes primary source analysis, particularly interpreting enslaved perspectives from archival records. She collaborates with the Colby College Museum of Art to integrate visual materials into classroom discussions. Current courses include HI264 (Atlantic World), HI276 (World History), and HI353 (Gender and Power in Atlantic Slavery).
