Associate Professor Kelly Bowles is a faculty member in the Department of Paramedicine at Monash University. Her expertise spans biomechanics, paramedicine, workplace health and safety, and healthcare research methodologies. She holds a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Wollongong (2013), a BSc in Human Movement Science (1996), and a Grad Dip in Biostatistics from Monash University (2020).
Research Contributions: Kelly’s work focuses on improving paramedic practice, clinical safety, and healthcare system efficiency. She has led or contributed to 23 research projects, including initiatives on paramedic musculoskeletal injury prevention, virtual emergency departments, and pediatric curriculum development. Her recent collaborations address uncontrolled donation after cardiac death practices and ambulance clinical guidelines.
Awards: She received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Education (2021) and the SPAHC Award for Team Academic Excellence (2020), recognizing her contributions to paramedic education and collaborative research.
Advising & Grants: As a Chief Investigator, she has managed grants such as the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) project on falls prevention disinvestment (2020–2025). She supervises research in occupational health and contributes to journal editorial work and industry partnerships.
Labs/Teams: Co-founded the Paramedic Health and Wellbeing Research Unit (PHAWRU), which investigates paramedic occupational health and safety strategies. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals targeting good health and well-being (SDG 3) and sustainable cities (SDG 11).
