Kelly Allison is an Associate Professor of Teaching at the University of British Columbia (UBC) School of Social Work, part of the Faculty of Arts. She also serves as Chair of the Field Education program and Director of Education for UBC Health. Her roles focus on advancing teaching and learning in social work, particularly in pedagogical innovation, curriculum development, and interprofessional collaboration in healthcare education.
Education:
- Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, University of Guelph
- Master of Social Work, Wilfrid Laurier University (clinical concentration in individual, family, and group work)
Research Interests: Child and Family Social Work, Health and Mental Health Social Work, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Social Work, and Interprofesssional Practice in healthcare settings. She emphasizes collaborative, high-functioning interprofessional teams in healthcare delivery.
Teaching & Experience: Over 20 years of clinical work in community children’s mental health, family services (Ministry for Children and Family Development), and BC Children’s Hospital. Teaches social work practice courses in undergraduate and graduate programs, focusing on pedagogical innovation and clinical practice.
Leadership & Contributions:
- Chair of Field Education since July 2019, overseeing practical training for students.
- Director of Education at UBC Health, driving innovations in collaborative health education emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
