Dr. Keith Thor Carlson is Professor of History and Tier One Canada Research Chair in Indigenous and Community-Engaged History at the University of the Fraser Valley. His scholarship collaborates with Coast Salish communities to reconstruct Indigenous histories within their own cultural frameworks.
Research focuses on Stó:lō memoryscapes, settler colonial impacts, and Indigenous-settler treaty relationships. Award-winning publications include 'The Power of Place, The Problem of Time' (Clio Prize) and 'A Stó:lō Coast Salish Historical Atlas' (BC Book Prize). His community-engaged methodology established the UFV Collaboratorium to facilitate co-designed research.
Honors include election to the Royal Society of Canada and multiple book/article awards. Current projects examine smallpox bioterrorism, land-based memory practices, and decolonizing pre-history narratives. He received the names Xyéytil and Stelómetel from Stó:lō communities in recognition of his ethical scholarship.
